Spartans upset at Penn State
Andrew Jones had 16 points and Talor Battle hit an off-balance jumper with 18 seconds left to lift Penn State past No. 18 Michigan State, 66-62.
The Spartans (10-5, 2-1 Big Ten) had one last shot to tie, but Durrell Summers’ 3 from the corner with 10 seconds left sailed wide of the basket, and Tim Frazier hit 1 of 2 from the foul line to seal the win in a wildly entertaining game.
The teams traded buckets down the stretch, none bigger than Jones’ tip-in with two minutes left. Jones hit a foul shot a minute later for a 63-61 lead.
After Summers hit a foul shot, Penn State (9-6, 2-2) put the ball in the hands of its star guard. Battle shook off Korie Lucious, then hit his 12-footer near the baseline for a 65-62 lead as fans in the Jordan Center erupted in delight.
Battle finished with 13 points, while Summers had 21 and Kalin Lucas 14 for the Spartans.
