In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Texas Rangers' torrential offense unleashed a nine-run rally against the Detroit Tigers, in which Michael Young hit a two-run double to begin the scoring in the third and another two-run double to cap it. Young homered later for a five-RBI night.

For the second straight year, the Rangers won the American League championship with a blowout at home in Game 6 of the championship series. Last season they trounced the Yankees; this time, they wiped out the Tigers, 15-5.

The Tigers set club records for most runs allowed in a postseason inning and in a postseason game. A series that had been close for five games ended with the Rangers scoring the most runs in a postseason game since the Yankees scored 19 on Boston in the 2004 championship series.

Until the third inning of Game 6, Max Scherzer had pitched 15 1/3 innings and allowed only four earned runs. In the third, he allowed six earned runs.

It was the Tigers' first Game 6 in a postseason series since the 1968 World Series. There also was a huge third inning in that game -- a 10-run rally by the Tigers that forced Game 7, which they won.

Even though the season is officially over for the Tigers, the team will take home the fact that entering the 2012 season, they will be the defending American League Central Division Champions.
