Titans win big in Chicago; Women suffer tough loss
At Calihan Hall, the women battled the Butler Bulldogs tooth & nail, but after a few key 3-pointers by Butler and missed free throws by Detroit, the Titans suffered a tough loss at home, 72-66. Demeisha Fambro lead the Titans with 16 points, followed by Dominique Dixon's 15 points. But it was the late 3-pointers of Butler's Brittany Bowens & Alyssa Pittman that crushed Detroit's hopes of winning. Next weekend, the Titans begin their tour of Ohio when they go to Dayton next Saturday to face Wright State, followed by Cleveland State (Jan. 20) & Youngstown State (Jan. 22).
Meanwhile in Chicago, the men pulled off a big win against the UIC Flames, 72-69. UIC rallied late in the 2nd half to cut Detroit's lead to 1, but Ray McCallum made a key shot after a missed free throw with 25 seconds left to give the Titans a hard earned victroy. The men return home this Friday night when they face last year's National Championship runner-ups, the Butler Bulldogs. The game will be televised live on ESPNU at 9 pm.
