UDM men & women destroy Madonna in preseason action
We always know that the purpose of preseason is to knock off the rust going into the regular season as both Detroit Titan basketball teams did just that with the victim being the Crusaders of Madonna University.
The Titan women kicked off the night by dominating Madonna, 93-46, thanks in part to their freshman forward Shareta Brown, who led the way with a game-high 23 points & 13 rebounds. The rookie was 8-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
Detroit had a tough time with Madonna early on, leading 32-23 at halftime and shooting just 35% from field. Then in the second half, the Titans went on a rebound surge, led by Brown. Also in the half, UDM outscored the Crusaders 61-23 with the bench was a big factor, outscoring Madonna, 32-19. Junior Demeisha Fambro finished with 17 points & 6 rebounds. Next up for the women will be a road trip to Indiana State to begin the Preseason WNIT on Friday, November 11th.

The destruction of Madonna continued as the men jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 112-52 win in preseason action at Calihan Hall. The Titans' offense reached the 100-point mark with just under six minutes left in the game.
At halftime, Detroit enjoyed a 48-27 lead while forcing Madonna into 20 turnovers. It would be the second half, however, where the Titans got the offense clicking on all cylinders. With a 64-point outburst, Detroit piled up an impressive 112 total points on the night.
Senior forward Nick Minnerath led the Titans with a game-high 27 points, along with eight rebounds & four steals. The senior hit 5-of-8 from deep as Detroit hit 12 triples on the night. Five Titans scored in double figures as Chase Simon scored 19 points, Ray McCallum with 17, Jason Calliste with 16, and Doug Anderson with 11.
The Titan men will close out their two-game preseason schedule next Saturday when they host Ashland University at Calihan Hall. The game is set to begin at 7 pm.
