Michigan football welcomes Brady Hoke as new head coach
Jim Harbaugh? No. Les Miles? No. A Michigan man from San Diego who started his coahing career at U-M during the new millenium? Yes.
Michigan's athletic director Dave Brandon announced Tuesday that Brady Hoke will be the new head coach of their football program. Coming off the heels of a Poinsettia Bowl victory three weeks ago with his now former team, San Diego State, Hoke will bring his coaching experience from the 619 to the maize & blue of Ann Arbor. And the best thing is that he doesn't need a tour of the town. Hoke is very familiar with the area, the campus, & of course the Big House, having been a defensive assistant coach under former head coach Lloyd Carr from 1995 to 2002. In 2003, Hoke became a head coach for Ball State & became the MAC Coach of the Year in 2008 before joining the Aztecs in 2009, in which this past season, he helped the program to their first winning season since 1998, along with a bowl win & became Coach of the Year in the Mountain West Conference.
Although the names of Harbaugh & Miles were being spread around, U-M AD Dave Brandon insisted that the job were never offered to them. Brandon was well aware that it was Hoke's dream job was to coach Michigan & decided to make his dream come true. The reactions from players & coaches have all been positive so far, including Charles Woodson from the Green Bay Packers & even Llyod Carr himself. A press conference will be held at U-M Wednesday to introduce Brady Hoke as the 19th head coach in Michigan football history.
And for the record, Brady Hoke is not a pure Michigan man. He was born in the state of Ohio. But don't worry Wolverine fans, so was Bo Schembechler.
