Red Wings should get goalie Jimmy Howard back against the Blues
The injury-riddled Detroit Red Wings could be on the verge of getting one of their best players back.
Jimmy Howard is expected to start in goal for the Central Division-leading Red Wings as they try to avoid a season-worst fourth consecutive road loss Thursday night against the Blues.
Howard, who missed the last two games after bruising his right knee during Friday night’s 3-2 shootout loss in Columbus that he expects to be ready for this game after practicing Tuesday and Wednesday.
With backup Chris Osgood sidelined by a hernia, Joey MacDonald was forced into action and struggled in consecutive starts, going 1-1-0 with a 3.99 goals-against average.
Howard is 7-1-0 in his last 10 road starts and 3-0-0 in his last three overall meetings with St. Louis.
Henrik Zetterberg, who leads Detroit with 51 points, has two goals and eight assists during a five-game point streak versus the Blues. Detroit is 26-4-3 against St. Louis when Zetterberg registers at least one point.
