Porcello struggles as the Tigers lose another one-run game 3-2.
The Tigers lose another one-run game tonight falling to the Cleveland Indians 3-2. Detroit manager Jim Leyland put five left-handed batters in his line up hoping to throw a wrench at Cleveland Indian starter Justin Masterson. That plan didn't work. Masterson threw six solid innings, allowing only two runs on four hits, to pick up his eleventh victory of the year. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer, but the Tigers could only muster four hits on the night. Rick Porcello struggled to find the strike zone, lasting just 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits.
Both teams went deep into their bullpens, with Al Albuquerque making his first appearance of the season for Detroit, retiring all four batters he faced. Four relievers finished for Cleveland, with closer Chris Perez pitching a perfect ninth inning for his 34th save of the season. Detroit hopes to avoid the sweep on Wednesday night sending Doug Fister (7-8, 3.67) to the mound to face Ubaldo Jimenez (9-14, 5.61).
