Justin Verlander pitched seven shutout innings allowing just six hits, walking one batter, and striking out six to lead Detroit to a 4-0 victory over the hapless Indians on Friday night. The Tigers scored two runs in both the first and second innings with RBI's from Delmon Young, Brennan Boesch, Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera. Detroit also got some great defensive play from their big men Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera who made some key plays behind Verlander tonight. Corey Kluber hung in for five innings for the Indians giving up four runs on eight hits for the loss.
Verlander had been struggling on the road of late, going 0-3 with a 6.46 ERA in his last five outings. Justin righted the ship though, helping the Tigers stay just one game behind the White Sox, who beat Minnesota 6-0 tonight. Detroit hopes to continue their winning ways when they send Anibal Sanchez (7-12, 4.07) to face Justin Masterson (11-13, 4.96) on Saturday for a 4:05 start.
