9th inning meltdown leads to Tigers losing to A's, 12-4
Defensive miscues by the Detroit Tigers ultimately led to another loss. After two misplays that turned a 3-2 lead into a 6-3 deficit in the 6th inning, the Tigers gave up six more runs in the 9th and went on to lose to the Oakland Athletics, 12-4, at Comerica Park.
In the 6th inning, Phil Coke was put in to relieve and Oakland's George Kottaras hit a liner that center fielder Austin Jackson misjudged with the ball sailing over his head for a two-run triple.
In making his claim to be the American League's MVP, Miguel Cabrera singled in four at-bats and nowo leads the AL in batting average at .333. Cabrera will have a chance to expand his numbers when Minnesota comes to Comerica Park for a 3-game weekend series.
