Tigers survive long enough to reduce magic number to 3

The Detroit Tigers managed to hang on, especially in the 8th inning, to defeat Minnesota, 6-4, to lead the AL Central Division by two games once again, thanks in part to the Chicago White Sox losing to Tampa Bay, 10-4. With their magic number down to only 3, the Tigers look to close out the weekend series with the Twins this Sunday afternoon as they inch closer to a division title.


NL EAST - Both Washington & Atlanta won their respective games, but the Nationals reduced their magic number to 1 and could clinch the division this Sunday afternoon with a win or an Atlanta loss.

AL WEST - With the Texas-L.A. Angels game rained out, Oakland moved to two & a half games behind the Rangers with a 7-4 win over Seattle, but still has the magic number of 3 against them.

AL WILD CARD - Due to the L.A. Angels game against Texas being rained out, they now have a magic number of 3 against them thanks to the victories by Baltimore & Oakland.

NL WILD CARD - The L.A. Dodgers moved to within two games behind Atlanta & St. Louis with a 3-0 win over Colorado, but still has the magic number of 3 against them.

AL EAST - Baltimore has once again pulled to a first place tie in the division with a 4-3 win over Boston while the N.Y. Yankees lost to Toronto, 3-2.
