UConn women destroys Louisville to win 8th national title
Breanna Stewart scored 18 of her 23 points in the first half as the #1 Connecticut Huskies won their eighth NCAA title with a dominating 93-60 victory over the #5 Louisville Cardinals. It's the most lopsided victory in a title game and it puts the Huskies back atop the college basketball world after missing the game the past two years.
The title tied head coach Geno Auriemma and his Huskies (35-4) with former Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt for the most in women's basketball history. Unlike the Tennessee legend, Auriemma has never lost a championship game in eight appearances.
This was the first of UConn's championships when the Huskies didn't win a regular season or Big East tournament championship. UConn's other national championships came in 1995, 2000, 2002-04, and 2009-10.
