Packers win their 4th Super Bowl
Bart Starr. Brett Favre. And now, Aaron Rodgers.
With 304 yards passing and 3 touchdowns, Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to their 4th Super Bowl title in history against the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV. And thus, the NFL's A-Rod was named the Super Bowl MVP & was presented the World Heavyweight Championship belt by his teammate, LB Clay Matthews.
Not only did it help Green Bay to have their quarterback put on a MVP performance, but forcing Pittsburgh to turn the ball over 3 times played a major role. Even though he threw for 263 yards & 2 touchdowns, Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger had a rough first half, throwing 2 interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Packers' free safety, Nick Collins. This helped the Packers gain an early 14-point lead. Many key injuries occured during the first half, including Green Bay's Charles Woodson (U-M), who suffered a broken left collarbone.
In the 2nd half, the Steelers woke up, trailing by as little as three points early in the 4th quarter. But Pittsburgh's third turnover, which was a fumble by RB Rashard Mendenhall, would be their downfall. Plus it didn't help the Steelers attempting a field goal that went horribly wrong.
Green Bay followed Pittsburgh's blueprint of being a #6 seed & winning the Super Bowl. Barring the NFL's stand on the collective bargaining agreement for next season, the Packers look forward to starting off the new season at Lambeau Field. But for now, football fans now turn their attention to the NFL Draft this April. And the Carolina Panthers are now on the clock.
