Sanchez loses pitchers duel as Royals shutout Tigers, 1-0
In their first game after they had four hitters appear in the American League All-Star Game, the Detroit Tigers suffered their third 1-0 shutout loss of the season, thanks to the Kansas City Royals and Ervin Santana, who blanked them in his 7 1⁄3 innings pitched, combined with a pair of relievers on a two-hitter.
The Tigers never got a runner past first base all night and have now been shut out seven times this season. Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez made his first quality start in three starts since he returned from a trip to the disabled list for a strained shoulder. In his six innings, he gave up four hits and issued five walks, the most for his Tigers career.
Detroit will attempt to score their first runs of the 2nd half of the season when they take on Kansas City again this Saturday night at 7 pm.
