Rain dampens Tigers' comeback chances as A's win in six, 6-3
Oakland’s Brandon Moss hit a two-run homerun in the 5th inning off of Detroit's starter Justin Verlander for the first time in his career as the Athletics slipped away with a 6-3 win against the Tigers in a game that was called off by rain in the top of the 6th inning.
Verlander, who not long ago had a long streak of starts lasting at least six innings, was gone after five. He threw 104 pitches, including 44 in a two-run first inning. The Tigers scored three runs in the 1st inning for a 3-2 lead, but soon after, Verlander would struggle as the game wore on.
Detroit will attempt to break the slump before it gets worse this Wednesday night at 7 pm when they face Oakland again in the third game of a 4-game series at Comerica Park.
