Porcello completes game as Tigers roar past White Sox, 9-1
Rick Porcello pitched his first career complete game as the Detroit Tigers overwhelmed the Chicago White Sox, 9-1, to lengthen their AL Central division lead by 5 & 1/2 games and reduce their magic number to 13, thanks in part to Cleveland losing to Kansas City, 6-3.
Porcello, who improved to 4-0 against the White Sox this season, gave up seven hits, one walk and one earned run, while striking out five. In addition to Chicago committing four errors, Prince Fielder finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs, including a solo homerun, his 23rd of the season, in the 3rd inning. It’s his second four-hit performance of the season and first since April 12th.
The Tigers will wrap up the 3-game series with the White Sox this Wednesday night at 8 pm before returning home to Comerica Park for a 3-game weekend series with Kansas City.
