With a defensive stop in the final seconds of the game, the #11 Michigan Wolverines survived a major scare from the Akron Zips, 28-24, at Michigan Stadium. Though Akron was a 37-point underdog, it was a Michigan blitz that got linebacker Brennen Beyer to Akron quarterback Kyle Pohl to help the Wolverines start the season, 3-0.

After two straight games of lightning delays & hard-fought wins, the Michigan State Spartans raged against the Youngstown State Penguins in a 55-17 on a sunny day in East Lansing. MSU's quarterback Connor Cook completed 15-of-22 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns.

Even though he threw for two interceptions, quarterback Cooper Rush, making his first start for the Chippewas (1-2), threw for one touchdown while Saylor Lavallii ran for two scores.

The Western Michigan Broncos went down hard to the #17 Northwestern Wildcats, 38-17, in front of 33,128 fans at Ryan Field. Quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen threw for a game-high 202 yards and two touchdown passes in the loss. The Bronco defense held the Wildcats to just 139 yards through the air and forced two turnovers on the night.
