8th inning dooms Tigers & KC pulls off more heroics in Game 1
All went well until the 8th inning as Nelson Cruz and J.J. Hardy homered in an 8 run-8th inning blowout as the Baltimore Orioles tore apart Max Scherzer & the Detroit Tigers 12-3 in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Making their second playoff appearance since 1997, the Orioles set a new postseason record with 12 runs.
Game 2 of the best-of-five series will be this Friday at noon inside Camden Yards in Baltimore. Justin Verlander of the Tigers will face off against Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen.
Coming off an emotional win against Oakland in the Wild Card game this past Tuesday, Kansas City carried that emotion into Anaheim as Mike Moustakas hit a homerun in the 11th inning to keep the Royals rolling in their first postseason in 29 years with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the AL Division Series opener.
Game 2 in the ALDS will be this Friday night with Angels' 16-game winner Matt Shoemaker taking on fellow rookie Yordano Ventura of Kanas City.
