Giants go 6+ hours to take 2-0 lead; Dodgers even NLDS at 1
The Giants and Nationals played from afternoon until just past midnight when Brandon Belt's homerun in the 18th inning lifted San Francisco to their 10th consecutive postseason victory as they defeated Washington, 2-1, to earn a 2-0 lead in their National League Division Series. The teams tied the mark for most innings in a postseason game and set a time record of 6 hours & 23 minutes. They combined to use 17 pitchers and 24 position players.
The Giants will look to sweep the best-of-five NLDS at home this Monday evening in Game 3, with Madison Bumgarner facing Washington's starting pitcher & former Detroit Tiger Doug Fister.
Matt Kemp hit a go-ahead homerun in the 8th inning to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals to tie their National League Division Series at a game apiece.
Game 3 will be this Monday night at 9 pm in St. Louis with John Lackey starting for the Cardinals against Hyun-Jin Ryu of the L.A. Dodgers.
