Notre Dame's FG wins Music City; Georgia & Stanford cruise
Kyle Brindza hit a 32-yard field goal as time expired as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the LSU Tigers, 31-28, at the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tigers were unsuccessful on a fake field goal at the end of the 1st half, a call that stood on review even though replays appeared to show the ball crossing the goal line. The Fighting Irish (8-5) also blocked a 40-yard field goal attempt by Trent Domingue early in the 4th quarter.
Freshman Nick Chubb ran for a career-high 266 yards and two touchdowns as the Georgia Bulldogs handled the Louisville Cardinals, 37-14, at the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chubb's rushing total was second highest in school history, behind only Herschel Walker's 283 yards rushing against Vanderbilt in 1980.
Kevin Hogan threw for 189 yards & two touchdowns and Remound Wright ran for three touchdowns as the Stanford Cardinal pounded the Maryland Terrapins, 45-21, at the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, California. On a chilly & windy night, Stanford (8-5) outgained Maryland in total yards, 414 to 222, and made school history by scoring the most points in a bowl game.
