In what arguably could be called the greatest comeback in college football history, the Michigan State Spartans scored three touchdowns in the 4th quarter on New Year's Day to defeat the Baylor Bears, 42-41, in the highest-scoring Cotton Bowl ever. Down 41-21 going into the 4th quarter, Michigan State (11-2) got the winning touchdown after MSU's Marcus Rush blocked Chris Callahan's 43-yard field goal attempt with 1:05 left in the game.

The Wisconsin Badgers kicked off the first game of 2015 with a 34-31 overtime victory over the Auburn Tigers at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida. Wisconsin improved to 9-4 in bowl games, thanks to Melvin Gordon running for an Outback Bowl-record 251 yards and three touchdowns, along with Rafael Gaglianone kicking the winning field goal in overtime.

Marcus Murphy ran for 159 yards and Russell Hansbrough added 114 yards & a touchdown as the Missouri Tigers defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 33-17, at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Missouri's defense held one of the nation's top rushing offenses to only 106 yards on their way to winning their third straight bowl game and reaching 11 victories (11-3) for the fourth time in school history.

In the first ever College Football Playoff game at the Rose Bowl, the Oregon Ducks showed no mercy against the Florida State Seminoles, 59-20. The 2nd-seeded Ducks (13-1) scored six straight times in the 2nd half, with five of the touchdowns covering at least 21 yards and the last four coming after Florida State turnovers. In a span of 12:54 on the game clock, the score went from 25-20 to 59-20.

Ezekiel Elliott ran for a Sugar-Bowl record 230 yards to lead the 4th-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes to a 42-35 upset win over the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the second semifinal of the College Football Playoff. Cardale Jones threw for 243 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown to Devin Smith that put the Buckeyes ahead for good early in the 3rd quarter while also running for 43 yards. Now the stage is set for the College Football Playoff National Championship in Arlington, Texas, where #4 Ohio State will face #2 Oregon next Monday night (January 12) at 8:30 pm ET.
