CMU wins thriller in Toledo; U-M prevails; Western falls
John Simons hit a 3-pointer at the corner with 1:08 left to give the Central Michigan Chippewas a 65-62 victory over the Toledo Rockets in a MAC opener for both teams. Toledo's Julius Brown missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 7 seconds left and Central Michigan grabbed the rebound & ran out the clock.
Rayshawn Simmons scored 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, with six rebounds and five assists for the Chippewas (11-1). Chris Fowler added 14 points, seven rebounds, & five assists while Simons hit two 3-pointers and finished the night with nine points.
Central ended a six game losing streak to Toledo and handed the Rockets their sixth loss in their last seven MAC openers. The Chips' next stop will be in Ball State to face the Cardinals this Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
