Taking advantage of an opportunity they never would have happened in the BCS and with help from the NCAA committee for pushing TCU out of the playoff picture, according to many fans, the 4th-seed Ohio State Buckeyes won the first College Football Playoff National Championship by defeating the Oregon Ducks, 42-20.

OSU head coach Urban Meyer now has three titles, adding this one to the two he won for Florida. He matches Alabama's Nick Saban as the only coaches to win a national championship at two schools.

Sophomore Ezekiel Elliott was names the offensive MVP after running for 246 yards and four touchdowns on a career-high 36 carries.
