CMU slips past NIU; Comeback cut short as UDM women fall

Austin Stewart's tip-in with 3.7 seconds remaining lifted the Central Michigan Chippewas to a 68-66 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies at McGuirk Arena.

Braylon Rayson hit seven of his nine 3-point attempts to finish with a season-high 23 points, along with five steals to lead the Chippewas.  John Simons added 11 points and Chris Fowler finished the night with 10 points.

It was CMU's 14th win at home, a program record, and it kept the Chippewas tied atop the MAC West with Toledo (9-4).  This Saturday afternoon, Central Michigan (19-5 overall) will remain at home to take on Ball State (7-17, 2-11 MAC) at 4:30 pm.

Detroit cut a 20-point deficit down to just one, but the 2nd half rally came up short as the Titans were defeated by the Golden Grizzlies, 64-58.

Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting.  Freshman Brianne Cohen had six points and a team & season-high 10 rebounds while freshman Darianne Seward contributed with eight points & four assists for the Titans.

Detroit will be be back home at Calihan Hall this Saturday afternoon to host Cleveland State at 2 pm. On that day, this Titans will honor Ellisha Crosby & Brie Wilcox during a Senior Day presentation.
