Red Wings get physical in shutout win over Tampa Bay, 4-0 628x471

In what could be a preview of the 1st round of the playoffs, goaltender Petr Mrazek made 23 saves for his fourth career shutout as the Detroit Red Wings shutout the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-0. The Red Wings became the first team all season to shut out Tampa Bay, who are the league's highest scoring team.

Joakim Andersson, Justin Abdelkader, & Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit in the 2nd period and Luke Glendening added an empty-net goal in the 3rd period. The Red Wings won in regulation for the first time in six games.

In addition to the scoring, Detroit brought the pain as well. Lightning defenseman Jason Garrison left early in the 1st period after being crunched into the boards by Abdelkader. In the 3rd period, Tampa Bay center Cedric Paquette had to be helped off the ice when he crashed into the net while preventing Abdelkader from scoring an empty-net goal. Paquette's left leg appeared to stretch awkwardly around the post during the play.

The Red Wings will make a quick stop in Uniondale this Sunday evening to take on the New York Islanders at 5 pm.
