Shootout haunts Red Wings again in loss to Senators, 2-1
Mark Stone scored the final goal in the shootout as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 2-1. The win snapped Ottawa's three-game losing streak while Detroit suffered their second straight loss.
Goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped 33 shots for Detroit, who got a regulation and shootout goal from Gustav Nyquist. Tomas Tatar also scored in the shootout.
Detroit forward Drew Miller left early in the 1st period after being accidentally cut by Stone's skate. The Red Wings' medical staff said that Miller sustained two deep lacerations near his right eye, but his vision miraculously was not affected.
Detroit head coach Mike Babcock stated that Miller likely will have a "big-time scar", but should return this Thursday night as the Red Wings host the Boston Bruins inside the Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 pm. Despite the loss, the Wings gained a point in the Atlantic Division standings and are in 3rd place with 93 points. However, with their win over Florida, the Bruins, who are currently a wild card team, are right behind Detroit at 91 points.
