Detroit secures 3rd in Atlantic by shutting out Carolina, 2-0
Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 35 saves in his third shutout of the season to lead the Detroit Red Wings past the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-0. It was also Mrazek's fifth shutout of his career.
Landon Ferraro scored his first career goal in the opening minute and Joakim Andersson added an empty-netter late in the 3rd period to help the playoff-bound Red Wings clinch the Atlantic Division's #3 seed.
After Montreal defeated Toronto in a shootout to claim the top spot in the Atlantic bracket, it became official that Detroit will play the Lightning in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, in which that series is set to begin this Thursday night in Tampa Bay.
