MSU hangs on; U-M shuts out Terps; CMU wins; EMU loses
Purdue's final drive fell short as the Michigan State Spartans survived to defeat the Boilermakers, 24-21. LJ Scott ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans, whose school-record streak of 12 games with at least 30 points was snapped. MSU (5-0) led 21-0 at halftime.
Desmond Morgan had nine tackles and an interception as part of a dominating defensive performance by the Michigan Wolverines in a 28-0 shutout victory over the Maryland Terrapins. Michigan (4-1) picked off three passes and limited Maryland to just 105 yards. It's the second straight shutout for the Wolverines, who have allowed a total of only 14 points in their last four games.
Cooper Rush threw two touchdown passes and Brian Eavey kicked three field goals to help the Central Michigan Chippewas defeat the defending MAC champion Northern Illinois Huskies, 29-19, in their league opener. Rush, who had been averaging 317 yards per game, completed 16-of-31 passes for 182 yards and an interception.
Leonard Fournette highlighted his third straight 200-yard game with a 75-yard touchdown run as the LSU Tigers dismantled the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 44-22. EMU's quarterback Brogan Roback was 17-of-24 for 161 yards & a touchdown, but was intercepted three times while running back Darius Jackson carried the ball 19 times for 66 yards & a TD.
