Royals and Mets move one step closer to the World Series
Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homerun on R.A. Dickey's fourth pitch of the game and Alex Rios hit one of his own an inning later as the Kansas City Royals ran over the Toronto Blue Jays, 14-2, to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the American League Championship Series. The 12-run gap is the largest margin of victory by a road team in AL postseason history and 4th-largest margin in overall playoff history. The Royals can win the AL pennant this Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm when Edinson Volquez starts for KC against Toronto's Marco Estrada.
Daniel Murphy homered in his record-tying fifth straight postseason game and Jacob deGrom pitched seven strong innings as the New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-2, to take a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. On the verge of a sweep, the Mets will be looking to go to their first World Series in 15 years when they send rookie pitcher Steven Matz to the mound against Chicago's Jason Hammel in Game 4 this Wednesday night at 8 pm inside Wrigley Field.
