Big Ten & Central Michigan prevail in in-state women's action
Akyah Taylor had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals to lead the Michigan State Spartans to a convincing 78-40 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos. Jasmine Hines, the senior center who missed much of last season due to a concussion, had 10 points and 10 rebounds in her return for Michigan State (1-0).
The Michigan Wolverines took control in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Detroit, 30-11, en route to an 88-61 win over the Titans at Calihan Hall. Freshman Hallie Thome led Michigan in double figures with 21 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in just 24 minutes of action.
Freshman guard Presley Hudson scored 32 points and four other Chippewas finished in double figures as Central Michigan dominated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on the road, 110-87. The 110 points is the fifth-highest single-game total for a CMU women’s team in program history and the Chippewas’ 15 three-pointers made ties for the fourth most in a single game in school history.
