Late goal kicks Red Wings out of playoffs vs. Tampa Bay, 1-0
Goaltender Ben Bishop stopped 34 shots and Alex Killorn scored with less than two minutes remaining as the Tampa Bay Lightning advanced to the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Detroit Red Wings, thus winning the series in five games.
Detroit finished 1-for-25 on the powerplay and the closest they came to scoring was Pavel Datsyuk hitting the post in the 1st period. Later on in that period, Danny Dekeyser also hit the post before the puck glanced off Bishop's right arm.
Tampa Bay eliminated the Red Wings in the 1st round for the second straight year and will advance to the 2nd round to face either Florida or the New York Islanders, in which that series is currently tied at two. As for Detroit, not only have they lost Pavel Datsyuk, due to him leaving for his home in Russia to be with his family, but they are now preparing early for the 2016 NHL Draft, which will take place on Friday, June 24th.
