EMU tears into MVSU; MSU overcome slow start to beat Furman

The Eastern Michigan Eagles kicked off the 2016 season with a dominating 61-14 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. The total marked the most scored by EMU since 2004 and the final tally also marked the largest margin of victory in a season opener since 2008.

As a team, Eastern ran away with the win behind a balanced offensive attack featuring 281 rushing yards along with 198 passing yards. In total, the Eagles posted 479 yards of offense, posting a perfect 9-for-9 mark in the red zone.

Next Saturday (Sept. 10), the Eagles (1-0) will travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers under the lights at 7:30 pm.

Tyler O'Connor threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns to help the Michigan State Spartans overcome a slow start against the Furman Paladins, 28-13.

LJ Scott ran for 105 yards & a touchdown to help MSU win their 18th straight home opener.

The Spartans (1-0) will make another primetime appearance when the travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on Notre Dame next Saturday night (Sept. 10) at 7:30 pm.
