Red Wings finish strong late to knock out Pittsburgh, 6-3
Andreas Athanasiou's 3rd-period goal gave the Detroit Red Wings their first lead and they pulled away to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-3.
Mike Green scored a powerplay goal and Henrik Zetterberg added another goal in a 1:33 stretch midway through the 3rd period to help Detroit earn some much needed points in the Eastern Conference.
The Red Wings are hopeful to keep the momentum going when they face the Montreal Canadiens in an Original Six matchup on Martin Luther King Day (Monday afternoon) inside the Joe Louis Arena at 3 pm.
