Red Wings bid farewell to the Joe with a 4-1 victory over Devils

With plenty of history and memorable moments at the Joe Louis Arena, it was only fitting that a few more were added to end its 38-year existence. Henrik Zetterberg, playing in his 1,000th NHL game, all as a Red Wings, scored to help Detroit defeat the New Jersey Devils, 4-1. Riley Sheahan had two goals, Tomas Tatar scored, and goaltender Jimmy Howard made 24 saves.

Nearly every Red Wing from the past to the present were on hand for the festivities, including former head coach & Stanley Cup champion Scotty Bowman and Steve Yzerman, who chose to be with his former teammates at the Joe instead of handling his general manager duties in Tampa Bay. Also, there were plenty of octopi thrown onto to the ice (at least 25) to commerate the occasion.

As we look forward to the next season inside the Red Wings' new home, Little Caesars Arena, hockey fans, as well as wrestling fans, will forever remember the great & magical times at the Joe and know that they were a part of history & a huge reason why the Joe became famous around the world. Joe Louis Arena, thank you for letting us all in.
