On a night where he became the 5th Tiger to join the American League All-Star team, Jhonny Peralta's big night at the plate and on the field helped lead Detroit to a 6-4 win over the Royals.

Peralta, named an All-Star as a replacement for the injured Derek Jeter, had two hits, including a double, and had an RBI & a run scored.

Magglio OrdoƱez was 2-for-3 with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored. Andy Dirks went 3-for-5, also with a double, an RBI and a run.

All-Star Jose Valverde made things interesting in the 9th inning, giving up a single and two walks to load the bases with two outs. But he got Billy Butler to fly out to right, recording his 23rd save of the season to remain perfect in save situations.

With Cleveland falling to the Toronto Blue Jays, 11-7, the Tigers pull to within a 1/2 game of the Indians for first place in the AL Central division.
