Spartans come away with impressive win over YSU, 28-6
B.J. Cunningham had nine catches for 129 yards and a touchdown as No. 17 Michigan State rolled to a 28-6 win over Youngstown State in the season opener in East Lansing.
Cunningham is now in a tie with Matt Trannon for first place on the Spartans' career receptions list with 148.
Kirk Cousins was 18-for-22 for 221 yards and no interceptions. But the Spartans did not run roughshod over the Penguins, outgaining YSU on the ground, 161-131. Edwin Baker led MSU with 93 yards rushing, Le'Veon Bell had 40 yards & two touchdowns and Larry Caper gained 22 yards on the ground & also had three catches for 37 yards.
