Rays tie up AL wild card race; Braves on verge of playoffs
With Boston losing the Baltimore, Tampa Bay took advantage and defeated the AL East champion N.Y. Yankees to tie the Red Sox in the AL wild card race. The second to the last day of the regular season begins tonight when the Rays host the Yankees and Boston will try to break their slump in Baltimore. Both games begin at approximately 7 pm.
Though the Braves continue to struggle towards the end of the regular season, they were fortunate that the St. Louis Cardinals also lost in Houston, and with two days left in the season, Atlanta now possess the magic number of 2 to seize the NL wild card spot. With St. Louis one game behind them, the Braves will need a win against the NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies (7 pm) and a St. Louis loss to Houston (8 pm) to enter the postseason.
