Wild card races tied up as last day of season is upon us
AMERICAN LEAGUE - After Tampa Bay took care of the N.Y. Yankees with a 5-3 win, Boston survived a Baltimore rally to prevail, 8-7. Tonight, on the last day of the regular season, Boston & Tampa Bay (both 90-71) look to claim the last playoff spot. The Red Sox will face the Orioles in Baltimore and the Rays at home wll play the Yankees, who are the #1 seed in the AL with home field advantage. Both games begin at 7 pm.
On a side note, if the Detroit Tigers defeat Cleveland one more time (7 pm) and Texas lose to the L.A. Angels tonight (8 pm), then Detroit will get home field in the ALDS and play the wild card winner.
NATIONAL LEAGUE - With Atlanta losing again to Philadelphia, 7-1, St. Louis took a big step in the wild card race and tied the Braves with a 13-6 win over Houston. Both Atlanta & St. Louis (89-72) will keep one eye on each other as the regular season comes to a close tonight with the Braves playing the Phillies at 7 pm and the Cardinals facing the Astros at 8 pm.
