The Detroit Tigers announced the club has agreed to one-year contracts with righthanded pitcher Max Scherzer, infielder/outfielder Don Kelly and outfielder Delmon Young, thus avoiding arbitration with all three players.

Scherzer started 33 games for the Tigers during the 2011 season, compiling a 15-9 record, 4.43 ERA (195.0IP/96ER) and 174 strikeouts. He established a career best with 15 wins for Detroit last season. In two seasons with the Tigers, Scherzer is 27-20 with a 3.96 ERA (390.2IP/172ER) and 358 strikeouts in 64 starts.

Kelly saw action in 113 games with Detroit during the 2011 season, batting .245 (63x257) with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 28 RBI. He saw action in seven different positions for the Tigers – pitcher (one game), catcher (one game), first base (15 games), third base (45 games), left field (17 games), center field (four games) and right field (39 games).

Young hit .274 (46x168) with five doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 32 RBI in 40 games with the Tigers after being acquired from Minnesota in a three-player deal on August 15, 2011. He belted five home runs in nine games with Detroit during the post-season, tying the club record for home runs hit by a Tigers player during a single post-season.
