The Detroit Red Wings announced that forward Tomas Tatar has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. In order to make room for Tatar on their active roster, Detroit has placed veteran winger Dan Cleary on the team’s Injured Reserve List retroactive to February 8.



Tatar, 21, has recorded 36 points (13G-23A) in 49 games played for Grand Rapids this season and 125 points (53G-72A) in 177 career AHL appearances. The Ilava, Slovakia native was Detroit ’s second selection (second round, 60th overall) in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Tatar appeared in nine games for Detroit during the 2010-11 campaign, recording 1G-0A-1P in addition to an even +/- rating. The 5’11”, 176-lb. winger has previously represented Slovakia at both the IIHF World Championships (2010) and IIHF World Junior Championships (2009, 2010).
