RED WINGS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN KYLE QUINCEY

Detroit Red Wings Executive Vice President/General Manager Ken Holland announced that the club has acquired defenseman Kyle Quincey from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Quincey was the Red Wings’ fourth round selection (132nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He returns to the Red Wings following one season with the Los Angeles Kings and three with the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avs’ top scoring defenseman this season, Quincey was part of a three-way trade today that first sent him to Tampa Bay in exchange for forward Steve Downie before moving on to Detroit. “Kyle is a 26-year-old defenseman who plays 20-plus minutes a night,” said Holland. “We know him very well as we drafted him in 2003, helped him mature into an NHL player
and watched his career develop over the past four seasons.” The Red Wings send defenseman Sebastian Piche and their first round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to Tampa Bay in exchange for Quincey. Piche was signed by Detroit as a free agent on April 12, 2009,
and split time over the last three season between the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (42 GP, 0-5-5, 25 PIM) and Toledo Walleye of the ECHL (94 GP, 17-44-61, 119 PIM).
In 22 games with the Griffins this season, Piche has registered three points (0-3-3), 18 PIM and a -7 rating. Quincey was claimed on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings from Detroit on October 13, 2008. The Kitchener, Ontario, native has appeared in 239 career NHL games,
