Quintin Berry's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning helped the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Detroit's Jacob Turner pitched five innings allowing a run and four hits in his first start of the season. Ironically, Turner grew up about 25 miles outside St. Louis, and current Cardinals manager Mike Matheny actually helped mentor him in high school.
Prince Fielder hit a a 425-foot solo homerun in the 4th inning off of St. Louis starter Kyle Lohse, Fielder went 2-for-4 while the Tigers have won their four straight series. Ramon Santiago and Jhonny Peralta started the winning push in the 10th inning with one-out singles before Berry followed with a grounder up the middle to end it.
The Tigers will be away from home for over a week as they journey off on a 10-game road trip for 10 straight days, starting with a visit to Pittsburgh against the Pirates this Friday night. After that, they travel to Texas for another 3-game series followed by a 4-game series at Tampa Bay.
