Alex Avila's RBI single with two outs in the 11th gave the Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Joaquin Benoit (3-3) got the win for Detroit. Justin Verlander struck out 12 allowing four hits and two runs in nine innings giving him 1,407 stikeouts and moving ahead of Jim Bunning for fifth place on Detroit's career list.
The win gives the Tigers a three-game sweep and left them only 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.
