Detroit's starting pitcher Max Scherzer left the game after the 8th inning with a 5-3 lead to remain perfect on the season at 7-0. However, closer Jose Valverde allowed two home runs in the 9th inning and gave up a three-run walk-off homerun to Chris Dickerson as the Tigers lost, 7-5, to the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
Scherzer threw 119 pitches, struck out 10 batters in eight innings, and allowed three hits, two walks, & three earned runs. He also didn’t allow another hit after giving up a two-run home run to Adam Jones in the 3rd inning.
Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homerun in the 1st inning, which was his 16th homerun of the season and his 12th to close out the month of May. That gave him 61 RBIs for the season and 33 for the month.
The Tigers will attempt to bounce back from the loss this Saturday afternoon when they play Baltimore at 4 pm.
