Matt Joyce, Evan Longoria, and Desmond Jennings each drove in a run in the ninth inning to knock out Tiger starter Doug Fister who was cruising with a four hit shut-out going into the ninth inning. That's when the wheels fell off, and the Rays scored three runs on Fister and Tiger reliever Drew Smyly. Tampa Bay starter Alex Cobb shut the Tigers down through 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only five hits while striking out seven. Joel Peralta struck out Prince Fielder with two on in the eighth, and Fernando Rodney came on in the ninth and recorded his 12th save of the year. Detroit hopes to take the rubber game of the three gam home series on Thursday afternoon when they send RHP Max Scherzer (7-0, 3.42) to the mound to face RHP Roberto Hernandez (3-5, 4.87) for a 1:08 start.
