Jose Alvarez had a rough night Wednesday in front of the home crowd, getting tagged for 4 runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work for Detroit. The Tigers started off the scoring in the first inning with back to back homers from Torii Hunter, and Miguel Cabrera to go up 2-0. Detroit added another run in the third on a RBI single from Prince Fielder bringing Torii Hunter home from second base. The Angels answered with two runs in the third, and two in the sixth to take the lead 4-3. Anaheim would score three more runs on Drew Smyly in the seventh inning taking a 7-3 lead. Prince Fielder hit a double to start the eighth inning, and then scored on a passed ball to make it 7-4. Angels starter Billy Buckner hung in for three innings surrendering just three runs before leaving the game. Anaheim's bullpen hung tight, giving up only one run from the third inning on to give them the 7-4 victory. Detroit hopes to avoid being swept on Thursday afternoon, when they send RHP Doug Fister (6-5, 3.66) to the mound to face RHP Jared Weaver (1-4, 4.65) for a 1:08 start.
