Scherzer suffers first loss as Tigers go down to Rangers, 7-1
The second-largest crowd of the season, 44,061, came to Comerica Park, hoping to see Max Scherzer extended his unbeaten streak into the All-Star break, but Texas had other plans as the Detroit Tigers went on to lose, 7-1, to the Rangers.
Scherzer is the first pitcher in franchise history to win his first 13 decisions as a starter, but was unable to match Roger Clemens’ 14-0 start in the 1986 season for the Boston Red Sox. Scherzer had gone 19 straight starts without a loss, dating back to September 23, 2012. However, he did keep his strikeout streak going of at least six strikeouts to 19 games, the second-longest streak to start a season in American League history.
Scherzer is now 31-12 in 57 career starts at Comerica Park. The Tigers will wrap up the 3-game series with Texas, as well as the first half of the season, this Sunday afternoon at 1 pm when Justin Verlander takes the mound.
