Justin Verlander pitched six innings while Torii Hunter had four hits leading the Tigers over the Nationals 11-1. Washington led 1-0 until the second where Detroit put five up led by homers from Hunter and Alex Avila plus a two run double from Roman Santiago.
The Tigers another five up in the fourth, with five singles chasing Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez. Verlander 11-8 allowed four hits striking out six batters.
Detroit 16 games over .500 for the first time this season with a day off on Thursday and will face the White Sox Friday Night Game Time 7:08pm
