Red Wings fight back late to win in OT against Penguins, 4-3
The Red Wings scored twice late in the 3rd period to force overtime and Justin Abdelkader's goal with 44 seconds left the extra session gave Detroit a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Joe Louis Arena.
Niklas Kronwall had two goals & an assist for Detroit and his shot helped tie the game with 39 seconds left in regulation. Both of the Red Wings' 3rd-period goals came with goaltender Jimmy Howard pulled for an extra skater. Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg finished the night with a goal and two assists.
The Stanley Cup Finals of 1997 & 1998 will be revisited as Detroit's next stop will be Philadelphia when they take on the Flyers this Saturday night at 7 pm, followed by a trip to Washington this Wednesday night before returning home on Halloween to face the Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings.
