CMU & WMU open MAC with wins; Michigan falls to Purdue

In women's basketball, the Western Michigan Broncos opened their MAC season with a win over the defending conference champion Akron Zips, 67-61, at University Arena.

It was just the second loss for the Zips, who fell to 10-2 on the season (0-1 MAC) while the Broncos improved to 8-4 (1-0 MAC) and improved their undefeated streak at home to 5-0.

Western Michigan will remain at home this Wednesday night when they host Ohio at 7 pm.

The Purdue Boilermakers rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to pull away from the defending Big Ten champion Michigan Wolverines, 64-51.

Michigan shot just 4-of-22 from the field in the 2nd half and Spike Albrecht was the only Wolverine to finish in double figures with 17 points.

The maize & blue will remain on the road as they travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions this Tuesday night at 7 pm.
