J.D. Martinez hit a solo homerun in the 8th inning to help the Detroit Tigers earn a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Martinez now has six homeruns in his last five games.
Bruce Rondon (1-0) pitched a perfect top of the 8th for Detroit to earn his second major league win and first since 2013. Joakim Soria closed out the game for his 17th save in 19 chances.
The Tigers are scheduled to face the White Sox again this Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. However, the forecast calls for 100% chance of rain, along with strong winds.
